A few words on photography

I see photography as having many uses. It is a tool for recording images. At one time it was a medium only for those who were very serious about photography. It was a medium where anything captured and recorded had an element of the wonderful especially since each image was uniquely one of a kind. One of my favorite uses for photography was the photo essay used by magazines like Life. I loved the photographers of the time. Eugene Smith and his country doctor picture story was wonderful. I also loved the old photo journalists who shot in black and white with images of incredible impact. My favorite portrait photographer has always been Yousuf Karsh. I was fortunate to meet him and he kissed me on my cheek. I was very, very lucky to meet him. Photography can be an art form as many have demonstrated. It can also be utilitarian and as such the spirit of the art form disappears into an oblivian of colorful mishmash which will never be confused with art.
